Age Group: 5–7 – “Data is All Around”
Duration: 6 weeks (1–2 hours/week)
Objective: Introduce kids to the concept of data using colors, shapes, objects, and stories.
Teaching Approach: Creative and Fun
🧩 Learning Focus:

- Ask and answer questions about “how many” or “which is most”
Week 1: What is Data?
Learning Outcome: Understand that data is information we collect
Tools/Methods: Toys, colors, paper
Sample Activity: Ask kids to bring 3 toys. Show color circles on screen and ask: “Show me how many red toys you have.” Kids hold up toys or type the number in chat. Color a chart together live.
Week 2: Sorting and Grouping
Learning Outcome: Learn to sort data into categories
Tools/Methods: Paper cutouts, flashcards, Google Jamboard
Sample Activity: Use Jamboard with animal pictures. Kids drag animals to farm/wild/pet sections. Or use Zoom annotation to circle answers.
Week 3: Basic Charts
Learning Outcome: Visualize basic data
Tools/Methods: Printable bar/pie charts, sticker charts
Sample Activity: Show a bar chart template. Kids vote in chat (e.g., favorite fruit). Fill the chart together. Kids color their own chart on paper and show it.
Week 4: Yes/No Questions
Learning Outcome: Collect simple binary data
Tools/Methods: Show of hands, chart drawing, Zoom reactions
Sample Activity: Ask fun yes/no questions like “Do you like dinosaurs?” Use Zoom reactions, hand raises, or a Google Form. Build a tally chart together live.
Week 5: Count & Compare
Learning Outcome: Begin to compare data
Tools/Methods: Beads, classroom/home objects
Sample Activity: Kids count colored crayons or beads at home. Share answers and build a chart live. Use fun visuals or GIFs to make it engaging.
Week 6: Create a Data Poster
Learning Outcome: Show understanding visually
Tools/Methods: Crayons, paper, Canva for Kids (optional)
Sample Activity: Kids draw a data poster at home (with or without a template). They present by holding it up to the camera or share a photo in chat or WhatsApp/email. Optionally, make one together online using Canva.
